The aim of the present book is to give a detailed account of the theory of Chinese medicine and acupuncture based on rigorous reference to ancient and modern Chinese books, as well as to explain its application in a Western practice. The theory covered is common to both acupuncture and Chinese herbalism. In addition, it discusses the use of the acupuncture points in detail and the principles of treatment. Maciocia has had many years of experience in practising and teaching Chinese medicine. He believes that despite its origin some hundreds of years before Christ, that it can be used to successfully diagnose and treat 20th century health problems, generated by a life-style very different from that of the ancient peasant society, from which Chinese medicine originated. He considers that the simplicity of Chinese medicine makes it truly universal, so that it can be applied to any society at any time.

(CUSTOMER REVIEW) The British School of Shiatsu-Do have chosen this book as our
Year 1 course book for students. It presents students with a clear
introduction of the 5 Elements approach to Oriental Medicine. With
references to Feng Shui and Qi Gong, the student can gain further
insight into how the 5 Element theory permeates the the Eastern
approach to live. For the general reader it is easy to read, in some
areas thought provoking, and can start you on a different road to
life!

(CUSTOMER REVIEW) Oriental medicine concerns itself with using natural powers to effect a
cure. This book is a very good examination and explanation of the role
shiatsu plays in creating a therapeutic approach that is completely in
harmony with the patient's whole body. Author - Shizuto Masunaga, Wataru Ohashi >Order online |

(CUSTOMER REVIEW) I initially bought the L.V. Carnie book on
Chi Gung based on the more favourable star rating on Amazon. I got a lot
of benefit and a greater understanding of Chi Gung from that book. However
when i happened across this book in a shop and had a chance to browse
through it i was immediately struck by the depth of detail provided on the
exercises. |

It is a challenge for Chinese medicine students to learn and retain
information about the characteristics of the hundreds of commonly used Chinese
herbs, and it is equally a challenge for the junior practitioner to be sure of
selecting the best herbs to use in formulae. This book brings to life, through
vivid and clear discussion, the characteristics of the commonly used Chinese
herbs. Through a full question and answer format, it offers a method for
students and junior practitioners of learning and memorizing the functions of
herbs through comparing the characteristics and the strengths of the herbs. For
the experienced practitioner, the fine analysis of the characteristics of herbs
allows an opportunity to make a formula with better quality and result, and the
discussion of clinical applications within each question and answer unit can be
used in practice to enlarge the treatment range. |
| Tao of Beauty: Chinese Herbal Secrets to Looking Great - £10.83 | |

(CUSTOMER REVIEW) Yes, I have read the "Tao Of Beauty" and found it to be an exceptional book. What I really love about it is that you make the recipes simple and easy to follow. One thing I have learned from you is that Chinese herbs are not just for medicinal purposes but can also be used for beautifying. I actually have come across patients in my clinic who want to know how to get rid of liver spots or pigmentations on their faces. Once again, congratulations and thank you for your wonderful book!

| Acupressure for Common Ailments - £7.39 | |

(CUSTOMER REVIEW)
This book focuses on some easily-learned acupressure applications that seem
intended to be the equivalent of a first-aid handbook. Although it lacks the
in-depth discussion and completeness of a more professional work, the techniques
listed cover some of the most common problems suffered by people (headache,
sinus, acid stomach, knee pain, back pain, etc.). The methods are startlingly
effective, especially the one for headache. I used this method once on a man who
needed shots for a migraine, but who had left his medication home. The pain
lessened by completion, but the relief continued afterward. His pain was
completely gone in 10-15 minutes, and stayed gone. These methods are especially
useful for those who already take a large number of prescription medications,
and don't want to add other drugs to their system for more "routine" problems.
